A New Start to Life as Normal

Normal. What is normal in terms of how one lives life?

Luca rowsed slightly in the night to feel a peculiar sensation. For the first time since he could remember (well since he woke up after arriving here with no memories at all, that is), he didn’t feel chilled to the bone. For once, he actually felt.. warm. He felt so blissfully warm. He felt the warm arms of someone else around him. He didn’t know why, but this stuck him as odd and wonderful. To be held close and cared for, it was as if even his body didn’t remember feeling such a thing. It was enough to make him want to forget whoever he had been. To turn his back on that old life and never go back. That person was dead and buried in the past. Whatever future he had, he never wanted to forget this feeling. He didn’t want to leave it. It was something precious to be protected. Savagely, if need be. He felt that down to his very soul. That finally he had something worth living for, worth dying to protect with all his might. Unused to such a feeling of peace, he let himself fall back to sleep enjoying this sensation–safe and warm in someone’s caring arms. This was Heaven.

A Diagnosis for Luca

Ember was up at the crack of down the next morning par usual. After her morning bathroom rituals, she headed to the study to check her calendar as rain pelted the windows from a line of thunderstorms that had moved in over night. All this rain was great for the crops but bad for her training schedule.

What she found when she entered the study was nothing short of disturbing.

Life With Luca Begins

Morning indeed came early to Birchwood Castle. Ember was up at dawn, though she was thankful for the alarm clock this time. She could have slept til noon had she not done so. After an invigorating shower and a roll through her morning bathroom routine, Ember entered the living room on her way to the kitchen to discover Luca had fallen asleep on the couch.

She decided to leave him be and left a second plate of french toast in the fridge for him when he woke up later.

Then she headed out to shovel hay in the paddock for the horses. Several hours later, after her rounds of making sure the horses were fed and the stalls mucked, Ember returned inside to check on her guest.

Enter the Mystery Man – Part 2

Last time on this story, Ember had found a collapsed young man while taking care of a neighbor’s farmhouse while the neighbor was out of town. Feeling there was something quite unusual about his case, she opted to bring him back to the castle rather than take him to the hospital.

Back at the castle, she had laid him on her bed, after much heaving and tugging to get him there. Then she had given him an ancient remedy potion she had discovered on one of her trips to Egypt. She had settled on the bed to read while waiting for him to come around only to fall asleep herself.

We had left off with the two of them asleep together int he same bed. Two total strangers laid together almost like lovers as the mystery fellow slowly recovered from whatever had left him unconscious in the field at the farmhouse in the first place.

Now, we continue our tale.

Ember awoke to find the mystery guy sitting beside her on the bed staring at her with a troubled expression. The windows told her that night had fallen long ago. She should have felt anxious waking to find this stranger sitting as he did, leaning so close. Yet, something about him made her feel oddly safe, even when there was a look of inner torment in his eyes. Those eyes were so oddly colored, part white, part amber. they looked like the eyes of a corpse that were starting to glaze over then stopped in transition to clear up just enough to see through. His skin still looked just as corpse-like with purple veins faintly splaying around his eyelids. Yet, he was quite alive and now awake looking at her as though lost with some sort of war going on inside him.

These thoughts passed through her mind in quick succession. She blinked then spoke as a warm feeling of relief filled her, “Hey. Look at you, you came around finally. I was so worried you weren’t going to make it, even after I worked so hard to drag you back here.”

The stranger frowned slightly, “You’re too kind of a person, taking in someone you don’t know. ”

“I had, and still have, a feeling that you’re not the kind of guy to hurt a lady. My gut is rarely wrong, and I’ve been to some strange places and seen some things even stranger than you are. Besides, I have a dungeon cell in this castle I can throw you in if you decide to be a dumb ass and pull something stupid. I’m not at all defenseless, you know,” she responded with a gentle grin.

Enter the Mystery Man – Part 1

It was raining hard one summer day when Ember went on an errand to take care of things at the Brown family farm while the family was out of town on vacation. She didn’t mind the break in her routine, though as it was nice to get out and do something different for a change.

By the time Ember finished the chores inside the Brown house, the rain was really starting to pour down. She felt rather guilty for Cap Morgan and Full Immersion being out at pasture in this deluge. But they were horses and the rain was a relief from the summer heat. They would all be fine. Ember, on the other hand, felt a bit like a drowned rat out in this mess though.

So Ember’s Alien Friend Dropped by to Visit

Last night, as Ember was taking care of last minute things before bed, an old friend that she’d met back in Hidden Springs dropped by to visit. He’s a rather unique friend that happens to be an alien by the name of Kexavu Ewi Bip. He often visited Hidden Springs to study the healing waters there and the interesting weather phenomena that produced so many rainbows. Ember’s castle just so happened to be positioned near the end of one of them. It was actually one of Kexavu’s devices that helped Ember move the entire castle grounds to it’s new location here in Wicklow. However, he had never been allowed enough time to see the inside of the castle. That all changed when he arrived tonight just in time to catch Ember while she was still awake. (Normally when he arrived to check up on her, she’s already gone to bed with a busy schedule of her own to keep.)

Ember was absolutely thrilled to catch up with him in person, and even more thrilled to finally invite him inside to see how far she’d come with renovating this old castle.

Kexavu was quite impressed both by the collection of small animals she had inside (especially the yellow python) as well as the authentic Ancient World incense she acquired for her home in one of her trips to Egypt.
